Battalangunduwa Island is a small but important island near the Kalpitiya Peninsula in Sri Lanka. It is well known for its rich bird life, including large seabird breeding colonies and migratory birds. The island also supports traditional salt production and diverse marine life. I visited the island with my family and friends, traveling from Gampola and camping by the sea. Watching dolphins, enjoying a fire night, BBQ, dancing, and singing made the trip memorable and meaningful.
This first-person essay reflects on personal experiences that reveal how true impact in life comes from those who remain present during difficult times. It explores the contrast between relationships built on convenience and those rooted in genuine care, emphasizing the value of loyalty, emotional courage, and unconditional support. Through vulnerability and reflection, the essay highlights how the people who stay during moments of uncertainty shape resilience, redefine success, and leave a lasting mark on the human heart.
