Climate change, key impacts of climate change, and how to reduce climate change
01. Rising concerns of climate change
In recent years, climate change has increased rapidly, and communities, governments, and environmental organizations have raised concerns related to climate change. With climate change, the impact of natural disasters is increasing rapidly, and this is raising questions related to how human behavior impacts nature and how humans need to take action to protect the environment. In the recent future world has been experiencing various issues related to climate change. Rapidly increasing temperatures are one of the major issues, which is mainly driven by deforestation and high carbon emissions.
With increasing temperatures, sea levels are indicating an upward trend due to the rapid melting of ice sheets and glaciers. It is expected that small island nations, including the Maldives, Tuvalu, Fiji, Solomon Islands, and 39 other island nations expected to face risks due to rising sea levels. High fossil fuel consumption, poor waste management, deforestation, and unethical business activities have a significant impact on increasing climate change. With these, there are rapidly changing weather patterns, increasing severity of natural disasters, and wildfires occurring. As well as due to human activities, wildlife is disrupted, and this causes damage to ecosystems. The Covid-19 pandemic and recent extreme weather events have raised concerns related to the efficiency of current climate change risk management practices, and this article aims to measure the impact of climate change and how we can contribute to eliminating or reducing climate change effectively.
02. How does climate change impact humans
1. Increase flooding
With climate change, rain patterns have changed rapidly. This causes high rainfall within a short time, creating floods. Recently, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, the USA, and Indonesia have experienced heavy flooding, and this has led to loss of infrastructure, including buildings, roads, and bridges, and loss of many lives.
2. Frequent droughts
With climate change, most countries are experiencing droughts. These droughts are driven by changes in wind patterns and rainfall patterns, creating significant challenges to cultivation, which leads to a reduction in Gross Domestic Product.
3. The effect of climate change on agricultural yield
As mentioned above, climate change has a significant impact on the reduction in agricultural yield. This is because, when changes in rain patterns and droughts occur, they lead to damage to agriculture. For effective agriculture activities, it's required to have proper water levels, and when there are heavy floods, it causes the creation of excessive amounts of water, while during droughts, it creates a lack of water for agricultural activities. As well as farmers are struggling to implement effective agricultural planning due to changes in rainfall patterns.
4. Increasing temperatures
With the rapid climate change issues, global warming is one of the core issues that leads to create various challenges. According to studies, global warming is mainly occurring due to high carbon emissions that are driven by fossil fuel usage, and this is causing to create various challenges to agriculture, health, and ecosystems.
5. Coastal erosion
Coastal erosion is another issue driven by climate change. This is mainly driven by aggressive wind patterns and high temperature levels. The rising temperature levels leading to create a risk of increasing sea levels which leading to an increase in erosion across coastal areas. With aggressive wind patterns, waves become aggressive in hitting coastal areas, creating soil erosion.
6. Loss of biodiversity
As mentioned above, with rapid climate changes, ecosystems are experiencing damage due to factors including high temperatures, droughts, or heavy rain patterns. The high temperatures, droughts, and heavy rain patterns have a significant impact on biodiversity, and several species are completely disappearing from the earth due to uninhabitable conditions caused by climate change.
7. Create a risk of vector borne disease
Climate change patterns are causing a risk of vector borne disease. The vector borne diseases are diseases that are driven by various pathogens, which are transmitted to humans from animals by blood blood feeding behavior of vectors, including mosquitoes, fleas, and even flies. Changes in weather patterns cause to create an environment where suitable for the spread of mosquitoes, fleas, and flies, and with increasing populations of these arthropod vectors, causing various diseases.
Therefore, climate change is causing to create various risks and has a significant impact on ecosystems and human life. Therefore, addressing climate change is an important task that allows us to ensure environmental safety.
03. Recommendations to address climate change risks
1. Planting trees reduces deforestation
Reducing deforestation is the most important activity to overcome climate change effectively. By reducing deforestation and planting more trees, we can reduce the effects of high temperatures and ensure effective reduction of soil erosion, especially in mountain areas.
2. Use renewable energy
Using renewable energy sources, including solar power and wind power, helps to reduce carbon emissions. The key reason for carbon emission is high fossil fuel usage, and by reducing fossil fuel usage through the utilization of renewable energy sources, nations have the ability to reduce their carbon emission significantly.
3. Proper waste management
Proper waste management practices are vital to enhance the quality of the environment. With proper waste management, we have the ability to reduce unnecessary waste that is collected in the environment and practices, including recycling, refusing to use plastics, reusing, and reducing waste is vital to ensure environmental safety.
4. Sustainable farming method
Farming is considered one of the key activities that lead to deforestation. In farming, people tend to use various chemicals that have a significant impact on biodiversity and ecosystems, which potentially leads to damaging water sources. Therefore, sustainable farming methods, including conservation, crop rotation, agroforestry, Pest management, and water conservation, are vital to ensure environmental quality and sustainability. Sustainable farming involves reducing deforestation, avoiding the use of chemicals, and proper management of soil that enhances environmental safety.
5. Energy consumption reduction and resource usage
As mentioned above, fossil fuel usage is considered one of the key reasons to pose a risk to environmental safety. To address this, we can enhance energy consumption efficiencies by taking actions to save electricity, taking actions to save scarce water resources, and ethical resource usage that does not damage to the environment and ecosystems. With optimal resource and energy usage, we have the ability to protect scarce resources and eliminate environmental risks.
